The Eldred Borough announced recently that most of Main Street will be running on one lane during daytime hours for the majority of 2024.  It will be passable to motorists but parking may be restricted at times.

“Please be alert, use caution, slow down, be patient & be respectful of the construction crews as we all try to work through this project,” said a Borough representative. “We have had several complaints of people speeding excessively on the side streets in Eldred, if you are using side streets to try and avoid Main Street work please slow down and be respectful to the residents that live on these side streets. The weather is getting warmer and there will be more and more people outside and kids around town please slow down”

In April, work on Main Street near King Street and Chrisman Street included road cutting, ditch digging, and new pipe being put in for sewer & water.

Updates on the sewer and water project, which began in April, will be posted on the Borough Facebook page, as well as their website, via https://eldredborough.jimdofree.com/. Updates will be provided each week, or two, as the contractors provide updated information to the Borough. These updates will include what streets they will be working on each week, road closures, parking restrictions and any other updates for the current project.

During the April Borough meeting, Engineer Jeff Spencer went over the upcoming schedule for the collection system. He said the PaDOT Multimodal grant application to work on King Street is due by July 31.

Council Member Billy Bair asked about Canfield Hollow being added to the new sewer and Spencer said, yes eventually but it will be a while before the Township project is done.

The council then went over the map of the lines and the manholes, stating they need to have some conversations with the Township as well as the owner of the park. They noted the total cost being $25,000, or more. The council also discussed new lines that will be going in by Jenny L. Manor and some issues with a concrete pad and a building that may need to be moved.

Council Member Dan Plummer said there were questions at the collection system meeting about blacktopping and sidewalks. He said the collection system project does not include the streets being completely blacktopped afterwards and does not include all new sidewalks either. Plummer said there is a meeting with PennDOT in April and they have a planned project to start to blacktop Main Street, as well as some new storm drains to be put in and some sidewalks may be fixed in this project, but not all, Plummer clarified. This project is due to start in 2026.

Plummer also brought to the council’s attention about the military banners that are new and the ones that have fallen over during the winter and that arrangements need to be made to have these placed back up before Memorial Day.

In addition, the council said they are planning to walk in the Memorial Day Parade once again this year.

The next Eldred Borough meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 10 at the Eldred Borough building.
