LITTLE VALLEY — Cattaraugus County lawmakers approved three resolutions Wednesday linked to the continuing redevelopment of Onoville Marina Park on the Allegheny Reservoir.

A contract with a Michigan-based consulting company was extended to complete a dock system redesign project initiated in 2022. The initial contract expired May 31, 2023.

More time was needed by Edgewater Resources, St. Joseph, Mich. to complete engineering and planning services. There is no additional cost to the county.

Crystal Abers, director of the Department of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism, which oversees the county-operated marina and campsite, said plans are to replace dock parts as needed.

While it would be very costly to the 400-slip dock system, there may be ways to reconfigure it.

In addition, bids for sidewalk improvements at the marina, which opened in 1971, were accepted.

Funds for the $102,395 project by R. Patti Concrete Excavating of Jamestown will come from the federal American Rescue Plan Act that were allotted to the county during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bids were also accepted for the demolition of two of the original seasonal bathrooms at the marina by Geiter Done of WNY, Buffalo, for $13,000. This funding will also come from the American Rescue Plan.

Last year, new bathrooms/showers were installed at the marina, but are not yet operational. They will be ready when the marimba opens on May 10, Abers said.

Visitors will notice a new entrance to the marina and new check-in station and a camp store.

What they won’t notice are the infrastructure — new sewer, water and electric lines that replace 60-year-old lines. Internet service is much improved with the arrival of broadband.

Former Rep. Joe Sempolinski, who is the Republican candidate for the 148th Assembly District, addressed legislators. He said he is no longer working as chief of staff for Assemblyman Joseph Giglio, R-Gowanda, but briefed lawmakers on elements of the state’s $237 billion budget for 2024-25.

Other resolutions approved Wednesday authorize:

  • Purchase of a walk-in freezer for the Meals on Wheels kitchen from Supplies on the Fly, Kennesaw, Ga., for $36,722.
  • Purchase and installation of two bathing tubs for the Machias Campus of the Pines Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center through state contract for $35,014.
  • Adoption of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Active Shooter Event Reference Guide by Cattaraugus County. The guide’s protocols are: “run, hide, fight.” The guide will be available on the county website www.cattco.org and in the county administrator’s office.
